I speak Hindi/Urdu, but I’m not confident. What do I do?
So many of my students know basic Hindi already — they often grew up with it — but now are hesitant when they speak.
If this is you — what can you do?
Shorten your sentences!
Sometimes you become so used to communicating in English, it is frustrating when you can’t communicate in as flowery of a way in Hindi.
But that’s ok! You can still communicate in another language!
So use it, practice it, call your nani and have a conversation.
Too often people think if they hesitate too much — they should stop speaking the language all together.
Don’t do that! It’s ok to be rusty!
The key is that you can still communicate.
And as you keep having your short-sentence conversations — you’ll get more fluent.
Be clear, be confident and try not to overthink it.
